Quotes with experiment
Science depends on outer experiment. Spirituality depends on inner searching and seeking. A scientist discovers the power that very often threatens even his own life. A spiritual seeker discovers the power that guides and moulds his life into a life of divine fulfillment.
Songs of the Soul (1971)
Don't be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment.
When I was taking a course in analytic mechanics, the professor had a big machine that each student had to experiment with and get an answer. And you had to find the weight of the earth with this contraption. There was a whole room full of retorts and Bunson burners and beakers and motors. And I did that, and there was nothing more ridiculous to me than finding the weight of the earth because I didn't care how much the earth weighed. And later on I didn't have any idea that this would be... I thought this was very useless, you know. I had no idea that this was going to come in handy in my cartoon work later on.
Oral history interview with Rube Goldberg by Emily Nathan, for Radio Smithsonian, 1970.
I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him; or the old laws be expanded, and interpreted in his favor in a more liberal sense, and he will live with the license of a higher order of beings. In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness. If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.
